Beyond the Pulpit 3.9.25

As we begin the season of Lent, Pastor Christy is taking some well-deserved time off after several incredibly busy weeks; time for her. Time to reconnect with family and time to strengthen her connection with GOD as she continues her ministry with us.

Our staff works hard and our pastor works especially hard. For clergy, ministry can run seven days a week. Calls for help and messages from those in need can come at all hours of the day so connection with GOD is critical. It is critical for you and me as well.

No matter who we are, each of us are called to serve. Jesus’ life gives us that example of service but without that connection with GOD, service can lose its joy and meaning. That connection with GOD is what Lent is about.

For many of us, Lent is a time of self-examination and self-denial, reflecting the forty days Jesus spent in the wilderness drawing closer to GOD and preparing for ministry. During Lent, many of us will use this time to give up something of personal value like coffee or chocolate. But what if we used this time to come closer to GOD through service? What if instead of giving something up, we took something on? It’s worth considering this season of Lent.

Grace and Peace
