Good Morning CUMC!
I hope everyone is off to an excellent school year. It was so great to have such a great turnout last Sunday for the Blessing of the Backpacks! Be sure to tuck that scripture blessing in your school bag and pull it out anytime you need a reminder that your church family loves you, and so does God! Here’s the verse on this year’s blessing card.
Have I not commanded you?
Be strong and courageous.
Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed,
for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
(Joshua 1:9)
Now that school has officially begun, we’re gearing up to launch our Grow Ministries this fall at CUMC. If you have an interest in and a passion for helping to lead children, youth, and/or adults in faith formation, or even if you’re just curious about what’s involved, plan to join us TODAY between the services for an interest meeting where we’ll share more about how you can participate.

- 10am, Sept 15 – 1st Sunday of Grow Ministry Classes for all ages
As we prepare for these Sunday morning opportunities, we’re working on updating spaces where each group will gather. So far, we’ve worked to prepare our children’s area. We’re so grateful for Amanda Hasley (who you’ve seen in our praise band) and Crozet Avenue Christian Preschool for helping to reset our Nursery (see photo), which is now located in the center room upstairs! We’re excited to welcome our youngest children to this space!
Most of last week was busy with visits and meetings, including Church Council and CUMC Justice Ministries. You’ll soon be hearing about several opportunities to join together in conversation about current challenges of injustice in our community. These conversations are called House Meetings (which may, or may not, actually be at someone’s house!). I want to personally invite each of you to consider joining these conversations. Your input is vital as we begin a process of making positive changes in our community in the coming year in partnership with IMPACT Charlottesville. Stay tuned for dates, times, and locations of these House Meetings. All are welcome!
