September 15th Worship: Set the Standard Yourself
People, even Christians, can spend a lot of time and energy thinking and talking about how things should be, and how others should act. This Sunday, at 9:30 am and 11:00 am, we learn that Jesus has a better idea: you set the standard yourself. People need to see and experience for themselves the way to be. That is why God came to us in Jesus to show us how we should be, and Jesus expects for us to show the world a different way: God’s way. The notion of the Golden Rule comes from Sunday’s Scripture passage, but teachings often fall short of the demand Jesus makes on us. Jesus wants us to set the bar and set it high. If we are willing to model a Christ-like way of being and doing, then we might have a lot less to be frustrated with and complain about.
