Message for 10.24.21: Community as Sacred
This Sunday we explore a concept developed by Emile Durkheim, a French Sociologist, who is credited with establishing Sociology as an academic discipline. Durkheim proposed that the community itself is sacred, so much so that individuals must be understood in terms of their place in the community and through the lens of that community to which the person is a member. This is precisely what the Apostle Paul was saying to the church in Corinth: each Christian is a vital part of the Body of Christ, but must exist within the body, a community of believers. Join us as we unpack and consider what Durkheim’s work and thought continues illuminate for today’s Christians.
