September 13th Worship – Names of God: YHWH
What greater sign of God’s desire to be in relationship with us than God giving us God’s own personal name. In Hebrew, this name is YHWH, pronounced Yahweh (ya way). This intimate name was considered dangerous to speak, as one might unintentionally profane the name of God, so the Israelites and Ancient Jews adopted the practice of saying Adonai, the Hebrew word for Lord, in its place. This is why we see LORD in the Bible rather than YHWH.
