February 23rd Worship: “Let Go and Let God”
We close out our Worship series on “The Hurtful Things Christians Say” with a ubiquitous saying: “Let go and let God.” It is meant to encourage people to trust in the Lord, have faith in God’s promises and power, but it can sound like we just have to resign ourselves to the current situation. It can feel like the proper response to suffering and worry is a fatalistic surrender. The Apostle Paul’s letter to the Philippians tells of God’s empowerment and expectation that we work with God’s grace, not passively exist. We have much to do regardless of our circumstances, and God wants to be at work with us, not just on us. The Good News is that we have been invited to be a part of the work of transformation, our own and that of the world. We are partners in faith with our Lord and Savior. This Sunday at 9:30 or 11:00 am, discover the hope we have that will help us in our time of need, and sustain us when we feel the world closing in.
