November 17th Worship: Christ and Culture in Paradox
Jesus himself often verbalized the inherent tension between God’s Kingdom and this world in which we live. This Sunday, we delve deeper into H. Richard Niebuhr’s theological exploration of Christ and culture in seeming paradox, contradiction, and tension. Our Scripture from the Gospel account of Mark displays this tension perfectly as the Apostles, especially Peter, struggle with Jesus’ proclamation about the necessary suffering and death of the Messiah. Jesus goes on to prophecy and teach that we the disciples who follow the Apostles will also live in this contradictory state of being. This Sunday, at 9:30 or 11:00 am, join us as we strive to make sense of this paradox and lean upon God to help us in our struggles of this world.
