September 22nd Worship: You Cannot Make Everyone Happy
Many of us struggle to make others happy. We want them to be pleased with us, and we worry about making them upset, but Jesus recognizes that this is not always possible. It has nothing to do with our sinfulness, but the reality of community and relationship. Only God can make us happy all the time, and only God is capable of exceeding all expectations. Have we as Christians taken on a mantle of expectation that not even Jesus would lay across our shoulders? Our Savior wants to free us from undue burdens and help us grow beyond our current selves into a more Christ-like vessel liberated to thrive in discipleship.
